About Kurt
Kurt has been building, dismantling, and repairing things since his dad first handed him a sledgehammer at 10 years old. He spent a number of years as a teenager and young adult working for the family business, which specializes in large metal sculpture from reclaimed materials. Kurt spent years doing demolition, pouring concrete, cutting metal, welding, sanding, painting, and sealing before going on to North Carolina State University to study Biology.
After earning his degree in Biology, Kurt worked for 9 years as a curator at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, caring for over 200 animals. There, he honed his building and repair skills by implementing and improving plumbing systems and creating safe and enriching animal enclosures, while also serving as Safety Officer for their department.
Since early 2021, Kurt has been building a plant nursery just outside of Carrboro. The property required extensive repair to existing structures, extensive demolition, and installation of new fixtures, structures, and irrigation, among many other jobs – big and small. Kurt has been handling all of these jobs himself, turning it into a functioning plant nursery that is now open to the public.
At home, Kurt is husband to Jess and dad to their five year old son. He spends his evenings playing pillow fight, hide and seek, Legos, and “see how many times you can run back and forth down the hall until you get sleepy.”
Kurt just really enjoys fixing and improving things and is Darn Good At It. Let his experience help you!
